ART CONSULTING

Building an art collection essentially comes down to two questions: who should we collect and where should we put the art? My role as an art consultant will try to answer these two questions. As the consultant, I would make the assembly of an art collection a meaningful and rewarding experience. My role is to guide clients through the ever complicated world of the visual arts. There are many galleries in our local community and throughout the country: the process of art selection often is daunting experience. My role will make it easier and I hope, a lot of fun.

When dealing with corporate collections several important questions need answering: what is the budget for art? Does the collection reflect the sensibilities of the corporation? Over what period of time should the collection be assembled? Is the art collection comprised of only local artists or do you want a collection with a more regional or national presence? Should the collection be both contemporary and historic, abstract and figurative? Can the collection be all of the above? My role as an art consultant will be to guide and advise during this most important phase.

Once the ground rules have been established, I will assist with all explorations through slides, gallery visits, etc. We will develop short lists of art works, try things out in the space, and then make selections that will best reflect our goals. I have many years experience working with designers in the actual installation of art. Simply put, I know how and where to hang the paintings. Where you put the piece, how it relates to other pieces and the architecture are very important issues. A beautiful art collection is enhanced when properly hung and lighted.
I also feel it is important to have some sense of understanding of the artist and his/her work. As an art consultant, I supply background and biographical details on each artist: pamphlets, exhibition catalogues, reviews in art journals etc.. Thus, a detailed portfolio concerning each artist will be built simultaneously with the collection. I have offered this service to many of my corporate and private clients.
